More Fun on the Farm
In Literacy, we continued with our farm theme and the children completed two more of their own versions of farm stories. These activities have a number of benefits. They reinforce our study of sight words as well as finding initial sounds. They also serve as a reminder that pictures give us clues and information when we're reading.
Playing with Shapes
In Math we continued our exploration of shapes by focusing on composing with shapes. The children used stencils to create artwork out shapes. They also tried some shape puzzles, which challenged them to fit pattern blocks to an outline.
Later in the week we learned the game "Fill the Hexagons". Children worked in pairs taking turns rolling a die and taking the appropriate pattern block for their board. Through this game we learned that there are many ways to make a hexagon out of other shapes, such as two trapezoids or three rhombuses.
FriendshapeIn TEAM Meeting we continued our conversation about what makes a good friend. We read the "punny" book Friendshape to inspire the discussion. We talked more about what to do when someone is not being a good friend and how to give a "friendly reminder". These are all ideas that we will continue to wrestle with as the year goes on. |
Rain, Rain, Go Away
It's hard to believe after this weekends weather, but earlier in the week we focused on rain in Discovery. We read a rain book that taught us a bit about how rain works. Next we shared what we like to do on a rainy day. We'll continue studying weather throughout the year.
Check out a few more shots from the week below...
