Another fun filled week in K105! Children have settled into some of the daily routines of the school day, though there is still much to come and plenty of new things to learn! In addition to making silly faces, here are a few things we've been up to...
What's in a Name?
We have continued to explore Literacy and Math skills using our names as a jumping off point. During Literacy, children created different pieces for our "name posters" that will be going up around the classroom. The children used bingo daubers and glitter glue to trace their name and made their names out of both play dough and familiar math manipulatives. In Math, we finished creating "name trains" out of Unifix cubes. This required children to count the correct number of letters in their names, and then count out the corresponding number of cubes. Each cube was given a letter to create a tool we can utilize throughout the year. Later, we compared the length of our trains and the number of letters in our names. We looked at two different ways we could graph the letters of our names, and each child also created a poster representing his or her name on both a number line and a ten frame.
See You Later, Alligator!
We began our Phonics program this week, and children were introduced to Abracadabra Alligator. He taught us about the letter A and its sound, including a silly saying, a trick to remember the A sound, a cheer, and a song. He had lots to share! Ask your child to share some of this learning with you at home!
We are Scientists!
In Discovery, children observed some of our tadpoles in smaller containers. It was a great chance to get an up close view, as children have been very curious about these classroom creatures! We talked about what it means to observe and children had great observations to share. We will be keeping an eye on our tadpoles in the coming weeks and noting any changes.
Team K105
In our second TEAM Meeting, we returned to our conversation of what it means to be a good teammate. We revisited some of our ideas from our first meeting, picking the most important to form our "K105 Team Agreement". We talked about what should happen if we break the agreement, and children all signed. This will be a reminder of how we will all treat each other throughout the year.
Rain or Shine
We have enjoyed Recess and Outdoor Explore in the warm weather. We played more "Bananas" per the request of many children, as well as "Red Light, Green Light". Even the rain couldn't stop our fun; when the weather kept us inside we had our first K105 Dance Party, which was a hit!
Growing and Learning
We welcomed a guest reader to celebrate another birthday in K105! Along with celebrating with a story, the class made a birthday jar and shared wishes for the birthday girl. During Learn and Explore, we opened new areas of our classroom including Discovery and the sensory table. Children enjoyed exploring these recent additions to the classroom. More to come next week!
Finally, here is a slideshow of more images from K105!
