I Can Use an I Message!
We have been learning a lot about how to work through conflicts and express ourselves with others. Mrs. Moeller introduced the concept of an I Message to all the kindergarteners and other grade levels throughout the school. The idea is that the child begins by telling the other how they are feeling and what the child did to cause that feeling. Following this initial statement, the child then tells the other what they need in order to fix the situation. For example, one might say "I feel sad when you take my toy. I need you to return it" or "I feel angry when you call me a name. I need you to say sorry." The children have really responded to this strategy and are using it all the time! |
